By far, workers in East Asia and America have the longer work hours in the world. The typical workweek in South Korea is 44 hours or longer. In United States 2006, the average man employed full-time worked 8.4 hours per work day, and the average woman employed full-time worked 7.7 hours per work day. While, the situation in most Western European countries is quite different in that working time is gradually decreasing. The European Union's working time directive imposes a 48 hour maximum working week that applies to every member state except the United Kingdom.
