What future enviromental protection legislature will have an affect on transporation to/from our place of work?

Influence

The assumption is that the government is and will continue on being the regulatory body which oversees the implemetation of enviromental policies around the world. There is however a strong NGO presence which actually fuels governement regulation as they act as a very prominent lobbying force for key decisions. These organizations include the Sierra club in the United States and Ducks Unlimited in Canada.

Examples

The current legislature can most clearly be seen in California where the state governemtn is trying to reduce green gas emissions by 30 percent in the next 3 years. This is a very high number in a state that contributes around 20 percent to the entire countries emissions. In this example, the state not only fines individuals and businesses who do not comply with the set regulations, but also rewards those who comply and go beyond the set standards. For example, the individuals who purchase enviromentally friendly vehicles get a tax rebate from the governemtn. Receipts from fuel pupms with a high ehtanol content can be deducted from business expenses, and ofcourse car pulling is enforced.

Europe

There are different realities in Europe for example. The high cost of gasoline through government taxation make it very uneconomicall to drive a car. Ofcourse, the vehicles driven in Europe are much smaller and fuel efficient, but other factors play a role in Europe than in America.
