What’s the difference between deep sea and short-sea shipping?

Whereas deep sea transportation is done from port-to-port, short-sea shipping is often from door-to-door. The latter means more value-added services and –in addition –more close relationship with its customers. Thanks to the long-term relationships with its customers, the short-sea operators often are sailing under long-term contracts.
