According to new preliminary data released by IDC EMEA in 1Q2008, PC shipments in EMEA recorded robust 19% growth compared with the same quarter in the previous year. Notebooks continued to drive growth across the region with shipments recording an increase of over 43% year on year, while desktops suffered from the market contraction in Western Europe and declined by 1.7%, boosting the share of notebooks to over 55% of total EMEA shipments.
Another report by IDC implied that PC shipments in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) in the fourth quarter of 2007 was around 18.1 million, which grew more than 20% from the same quarter one year ago. The top five vendors in EMEA are HP, Acer, Dell, Fujitsu Siemens and Toshiba; in Asia/Pacific are HP, Dell, Lenovo, Acer and Toshiba.
