To achieve Paris agreement goals, solar PV is a major part of the renewable energy transition. In the last two decades, there has been a significant advancement in technology in this sector, but commercial deployment is still not at par with desired targets. Despite the strong momentum, solar PV power projects continue to face serious constraints that could potentially hinder the accelerated growth needed in the coming decades.

Enablers:

- Due to the Paris agreement and COP26, economies are setting long-term, well-defined and stable solar PV power targets to attract investment.
- Development of subsidized community-shared and third-party-owned business models to incentivize deployment projects.
- Improving existing infrastructure along with building a high-voltage grid, or super grid, to transport electricity to another region and avoid renewable energy curtailment (https://irena.org/-/media/Files/IRENA/Agency/Publication/2019/Nov/IRENA_Future_of_Solar_PV_2019.pdf).
- Engage local communities from the early stages of solar PV development and make them part of the cost-benefit model to ensure support from them in space development for solar energy projects.

Inhibitors:

- POLITICAL BARRIERS: Lack of long-term and stable policy targets and well-coordinated policy mix, Complex/outdated regulatory framework, Lack of quality control measures, etc.
- TECHNOLOGICAL BARRIERS: Grid connection integration, grid flexibility (intermittency), availability of space for large-scale panel deployment, lack of cell capacity. - ECONOMIC BARRIERS: Cost efficiency, the payback period of investment, low incentives to move away from conventional sources, etc.
- SOCIAL BARRIERS: Lack of consumer awareness and barriers in information sharing regarding performance and const of new technologies, Lack of relevant standards and quality control measures, etc.


Paradigms:

With global pressure building to tackle climate change and CO2 emission, accelerating the deployment of Solar PV is crucial to transition towards renewable energy resources. With breakthrough technologies coming in place and increasing consumer awareness, investment is needed to ensure commercial deployment of Solar PV to secure future transition towards renewable energy economy.
