Description:
T-DMB(Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) is an advanced version of European Digital Audio Broadcasting that incorporates MPEG-4 Multimedia technology. T-DMB runs on networks of transmission towers and gap fillers, while S-DMB works on networks of a satellite and gap fillers. T-DMB can provide seamless and high quality audio, video and data services in a vehicle moving up-to 200km/h. Users can enjoy DMB services through various kinds of handheld terminals such as mobile phones, laptops computers and in-car devices. The T-DMB function can be added to any kind of portable device with a screen, at an additional cost of only US$100-200. Korean government granted three licenses to the incumbent terrestrial broadcasters (KBS, MBC, SBS) and three licenses to new comers (YTN DMB, KMMB and U1media (ex Korea DMB)). T-DMB can interface with wireless Internet service through MPEG-4 BIFS technology. Therefore, T-DMB service penetration rate may affect on wireless Internet business.
