Description

Mashups are a relatively new internet application, new technologies, such as mashups, hold great attractions to technologists. Often these technologists, professional and amateurs, will start developing things just because they can. The mashups that are available at the moment are mostly non-profit sites; many have no obvious value, but were developed by technologists just for fun. They will find new and exiting ways to use mashups.

Enablers

  • The availability of the technology to make mashups enables technologists to actually make them.
  • Websites (like Google) making their API’s easily accessible to developers.

Inhibitors

  • Some websites do not like it when their API’s are used to create mashups and protect them. This limits the way their websites can be linked.
  • Information that is copyrighted or patented cannot be used to create mashups unless permission of the owner is given.

Paradigms

Technologists have shown ways to use mashups and other technologies in creative ways, this opens up new possibilities.

Experts

  • Mashup camp was an event first held in February 2006 and will be held again in July 2006. This brought together all sorts of people interested in mashups, discussing the possibilities of mashups. It was organized by David Berlind and Doug Gold http://wiki.mashupcamp.com/
  • John Musser, creator of http://www.programmableweb.com, which shows a lot of information of what mashups are, how to create them and what mashups have been created and are available.

Timing

  • February 2006: Mashup Camp allowed people to share creative ideas.
