Description:
This driving force is currently written to support the scenario The Future of R&D in Pharmaceutical Industry in 2025. This relates to the possibility to expand in new markets by pharmaceutical industries, especially in developing countries, where logistics and distribution may be a hurdle to get the drug to the patient.
Enablers:
- The increasing globalization of markets
- Increasing Power of the United Nations
- Unification of regulatory approval
- Effect of development of health care system in emerging market countries to existing pharmaceutical industry
- Good distribution network, also IT-wise
Inhibitors:
- Protectionism, eg. very high import duties, difficult regulatory demands before drug is approved
- Corruption, eg. in getting the drug imported and transported to the proper place
- The increasing gap between developed, emerging and poor economies
- Lack of proper roads and transport
- Lack of knowlegde of patients
Paradigms:
- Starting to count on developing countries or emerging markets to make pharma grow needs the drugs to reach the patients
- Distribution and logistics are essential to get the drug to the patient
- In many ways there are still a lot of places people don't easlily reach

- National governments regarding availability of roads, public transport, distribution channels
- World Trade Organisation, regarding import tarifs
