Description

As more and more books and full text searches are possible, the rate of succes in finding plagiarism cases grows substantially. But what happens when the search engine stumbles over grammatically and syntactically similar sentences of two books, both discussing two different topics within one science, e.g. Medicine?

Enablers

  • Internet archive developments
  • Stronger datamining capacities

Inhibitors

  • Standing on the shoulders of giants still more important

Paradigms

It is very possible that the search engines on the internet will develop high capacities in finding patterns, whereby the chance of finding similarities grows substantially. Though originality may increase substantially, it may very well be of influence in the development of new knowledge - it is harder to create a text that is not tagged as plagiarised/copyied.
