The EU-Africa summit, held in December 2007 in Lisbon, cemented new Africa-EU strategic partnership, marking a qualitative leap in relations between the two continents. All the countries of North Africa are part of the European Neighbourhood Policy, while relations with the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa are the responsibility of the European Commission's Directorate General for Development.
