What was accepted before WW I was that in order to defeat someone, you have to defeat the army, which amounted in severe population decrease and exhaustions. In WW I this became apparent more than before due to the magnitude of the conflict. The next evolutionary step was to mount an action that will hit strategic points and render the enemy inert. One such example is the Blitzkrieg developed in WW II. Later this evolved and it is still widely used in a form of Air Strikes, establishing air superiority and therefore has maneuvering capabilities, better intelligence and imposes as superior from above. With the development of computers and networks, the intelligence gathering moved into the cyberspace, also, due to the nature of many critical systems being networked and made accessible remotely, it was logically to try and take the doctrine of waging war further with an end goal to be superior. At this point in time, we are witnessing the beginnings of these new evolutionary steps in military doctrine known as cyberwarfare.
