The VeriChip™

What is it?

The VeriChip™ is the first and only human-implantable RFID microchip used for the purposes of automatic identification. This chip is about the size of a grain and can be inserted just under the skin. Each microchip contains a unique 16-digit ID. The chip itself does not contain any other data than this ID nor does it make use of GPS tracking capabilities. Because it is implanted under the skin, it can also not be lost unlike conventional forms of identification. Insertion under the skin is a quick, painless outpatient procedure. VeriChip is the only company in the world today to offer an implantable FDA-cleared RFID microchip and has applied this technology in its VeriMed systems. The VeriMed system uses the chip to access personal medical information in a password protected database.
