Closed border is defined as the action of preventing immigration to European Union and among EU countries. Governments tend to create barries in order to maintain its borders closed. Closed borders restrict migration and naturalization by non-citizens. Several arguments for closed borders have been provided:
- That open borders are a threat to security and public safety.
- That, in prosperous countries, open borders would trigger massive immigration, straining the domestic economy.
- That closed borders are necessary to protect the domestic culture(s).
