At deep sea shipping the US dollar plays a dominant role. Shipping rates, price of new vessels, bunkering costs, port costs, etc., are quoted in USD.

At shipbuilding the US dollar is important, albeit the Euro is more and more used.

At short-sea shipping in Europe shipping rates are often in Euro, but can also be in GBP as the UK is the largest short-sea shipping market in Europe.
