The most common illnesses transmitted around the workplace are colds and flu. The nature of office work itself has produced a whole host of stress-related symptoms and musculoskeletal strains. Back spasm is caused by long time sitting with one’s back in a rigid, slightly flexed position. South Korea and Japan are the only countries where death by work or "karoshi" (과로사) is a recognized phenomenon, caused by exhausting overwork for a long period.
