Name
Transformation from textual to a more visually oriented Internet

What
The current form of the Ineternet is based on text-orioented web-pages that can display a lot of information using text. Humans can not process textual information very well and therefore a shift can be seen from a textual oriented Internet to a system where the emphasis is put more on the visual usability

Enablers
The manufacturers of browser plugins are contributing to this development. Especially the cooliris developers. Every media on the web is involved.

Inhibitors (what can stop or slow the driving force down)
Currently, visual media on the web is limited by the developers of online web-players, video codec developers and by standardization organizations like w3. If there will not be more open source enablers of visual media, this will be a serious threat.

Experts
Experts in this field can be found at the web standards organization w3

Timing
The visualization of the web has been growing ever since it was invented in 1994. Most UNIX users are familiar to applications as linx which were the first real browsers. At the time, these browsers could only show text and no client side scripting or images. The possibilities of online video and word processing as we know it today were far beyond imagination.
