Finally I would like to refer the results of another very interesting study regarding motivation. Rewards versus punishment (which is extensively used in schools) seems not to motivate people in today's world. People doing more intellectual work are rather motivated by the presence of autonomy, purpose and mastery. This explains the growth of media based on volunteer work, for which contributors are actually the end-users (like youtube, wikipedia).
