Group Members

Welcome everyone,

Our group has decided to create scenario's for grid computing, the group consists of the following members:

  • Alastair Comley
  • Tjeerd Tesselaar
  • Richard Velden

Introduction
What is a grid? According to Webopdia:
"A form of networking. Unlike conventional networks that focus on communication among devices, grid computing harnesses unused processing cycles of all computers in a network for solving problems too intensive for any stand-alone machine."

Way of working
We will start by investigating grids, their background, purpose, and other type of information in order to create a common baseline amongst all group members. Once this baseline is established, we will start developing the scenarios.

Creating the baseline
In order to create this baseline, we will need to do a lot of research about the particular topic. Our approach is to first answer a set of questions. The question we wanted answered are the following:

What are the basic concepts?

  • What are GRID / Cell?
  • Are there different approaches? / Definition? (Is a hardware/ software)?
  • What is Cell / GRID architecture / infrastructure? (hardware/ software)
  • Bandwidth Chip Computer
  • What is the present development stage? How many times are needed/ used to develop this?
  • Who use the GRID now/ in the future?
  • Who develop/ research on GRID now?
  • Who are the players in this field?
  • Present motives for developing it / assumptions for its future use?
  • Technology pioneers: country, company, university?
  • Motives / De-motives for implementing GRID?
  • Industrial/ Commercial implication / usage?
  • What are the limitations of GRID?
  • Difference between Clusters & GRID
