Now the next steps are:
- Please prepare a short story (half a A4) that describes a possible future for the Internet in the next 10 years and bring it to class to present.
- Make a small systems diagram to support your story using the driving forces.  Connect the driving forces to each other in a systems diagram that expains how your story emerges.
- On Thursday night we will converge the different scenarios into 3-4 stories.  Two groups each will then work on these stories, during the following week, to present them on the last class!

Welcome to the RSM MBA class looking at the future, internetworking technologies, and how to respond to these changes in an organised environement.

Our scenario will focus on: The future of the Internet in 2015

Process Steps

We are now 60% of the way there to make scenarios. To recap, we have learnt that:

- the future is uncertain, and that planning based on prediction fails. (scenario thinking)
- we need to build a shared language to discuss, organise strategise our response to these questions (a new language for strategy)
- being right is not the key criteria, it is only a good start! Learning processes make the difference (Vodafone)
- extrapolating current trends into the future does not work, because systems are complex and forces often counter each other. (systems thinking)
- we should look at ways to communicate complex information, and represent organisations in their rich nature. (storytelling)
 - technology is changing us, the way we think about the world, and by extention the stuctures of society (McLuhan, Castells and others)
- the changes will not be insignificat, we can see this already in art. (Battleship Potempkin (old vs. new)) (Van Gogh Museum vs. Van Gogh Gauguin (expert & critical understanding vs. experience and emotion)
- how we build identity is a key change that we can expect - by extention our understanding of organisation will deeply change (flying the plane without a captain, etc.)
- we need to know our stuff, and deeply reasearch an issue (Vodafone)
- making scenarios is hard work
this is the elevator version much more was covered, regarding myth, post modernism, virtual worlds, etc.

Group 2, Tom Wang, comparison between "The Van Gogn Museum's Official Site" and "The Van Gogh Gauguin"

== Is there any difference between these two websites? Could be. We can address to different layout, function and even colour in terms of technology. However if we check the motives behind those apparent differences, the two websites share one thing in common: business.

To win the business, especially in the competitive market, it is all about leveraging core competence. As the official website its core competence is to have access to all physical and non-physical assets of Van Gogn, which is unique compared to other websites. If so, to leverage its core competence refers to show all the exclusive assets you have. Thus a research or quantity-driven website is more useful. Browers will be striked by the huge catagarized valuable information the official website has.

This model won't apply to "The Van Gogh Gauguin as it does not enjoy the uniqueness its peer has. In Consequence a value or qualititively driven strategy has to be applied. One example is that the official website has only two languages whereas the Van Gogh Gauguin has 7 languages.

To sum Technology is business. Technology is about invention and business is about exchange, which are closely correlated. Edison's inventions lead to GE and Bill gate's invention lead to Microsoft. And they got self-actualization, fame, money as an exchange, which belong to the concept of business.
