If oil prices drop due to a strong recession, will the field of new fuels be profiting or go with the flow?

The consumption of oil soon will reach it peak. Mainly because of the development of new large economies in Asia. This will induce the necssesity to look for alternative energy sources and energy carrier systems. It is not the question if the oil price will go down but rather when will the availability of oil go down.
