The 'knowledge economy' in which we currently live has a great impact on how business operates and will operate in the future. Companies are more and more competing on knowledge, rather than on production. This implies that the people of a company have become the company's competitive advantage. In day to day operations it is required to set different groups of people together to solve a specific problem with the specific knowledge of that group. When they're finished they move on the the next problem in a different group.

Companies are building 'knowledge networks' in order to achieve success. A networked organisational structure also requires a new approach on leadership. The focus will be less on the expertise in a particular business area, but rather more on their ability to build teams and networks that will achieve the desired results.
