4. Will Intel accept Wibro Profile in WiMAX chipset?

Basically, the IEEE 802.16e technology standard was adopted as the main technology of WiBro at the end of 2005. And the Mobile WiMAX profile standard for guaranteeing compatibility between equipment was also made based on the WiBro profile. It means that Korean Wibro was successfully created the foundation to advance into the global market also.

Based on IEEE Standardizaion movement, Intel has signed a memorandum of understanding with both Korea Telecom (KT), Korea’s biggest wired telephone and broadband operator, in June of 2005 and SK Telecom, South Korea’s biggest mobile carrier, to work with them on harmonizing the Korean WiBro standard with WiMax 802.16e. Intel has provided engineering support to ensure interoperability and to have a dual-band CDMA/WiBro handset available at the time of the commercial WiBro launch in Korea.
